Most consumers know Dawn as THE dish soap that cuts grease in the sink— but it’s now being touted as “the ultimate secret weapon” for cleaning messes throughout the home.
 
At a recent media event in New York City, Dawn partnered with lifestyle expert and mom-to-be Whitney Port who shared her favorite alternative uses for the P&G-owned kitchen staple.
 
Port is no stranger to keeping it together. An entrepreneur and television personality best known for her role on MTV’s “The Hills” and “Laguna Beach,” she’s also launched a clothing line, is the author of “True Whit: Designing a Life of Style, Beauty, and Fun” and her latest creation is Bloom2Bloom, the first-ever “fashion-forward” flower brand with a portion of each purchase going to Wish Upon a Teen’s Design My Room program. There’s not even a second to look untidy in her world!
 
In the test kitchen at Citizen Relations’ Lexington Avenue headquarters, Port—in her third trimester in a wraparound kimono and high-heeled sandals—demonstrated how Dawn can go beyond the sink to quell dirt. For example, pre-treat laundry, de-gunk makeup brushes and make jewelry sparkle like new.
 
“My favorite use for Dawn is to clean my jewelry,” Port told Happi. “It really makes a difference! Soak it in Dawn and water for two minutes, then use a toothbrush to keep it sparkling!”
 
Stains happen to the best of us. But when Dawn happens to the best of stains—like tomato sauce, blueberries and oil—you give your clothes a fighting chance, said Port. Apply Dawn directly to any cotton fabric, covering the entire stained area and rub it in using your fingers. Then wash it normally in the washing machine.
 
“With a baby on the way, Dawn will be a well-needed stain remedy!” she quipped.
 
And then there are those overused beauty supplies. The best and easiest way to clean your makeup brushes and sponges is with Dawn, said Port. Wet the dirty brush with lukewarm water and dip into some Dawn. Brush back and forth to absorb the soap and work up a lather. Gently run it under water and repeat until the water runs clean and suds are gone. Gently squeeze out excess water, reshape and lay flat to dry.
 
“Dawn is not just to get the grease off of dishes anymore,” said Port. “Plus, it smells fresh and is gentle too!”
 
Other household marketers are linking up with famous faces for 2017 to add a boost to their business. For Palmolive Ultra Strength, actor, father and cookbook author Freddie Prinze Jr., created a series of “Messipes” – a.k.a messy recipes – to help families make mealtime more memorable and the clean-up easier.  
 
Another “art meets soap collaboration” comes from Method. In July it will link with Oakland, CA-based Creative Growth, a world-renowned non-profit arts center, to create a limited edition collection of hand washes and home cleaning products.
